LCSC places three on all-FC men’s basketball second team

03-08-10
WHITEFISH, Mont. – Three members of the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team earned second-team all-Frontier Conference honors, league commissioner Kent Paulson has announced.

Seniors Tanner McIntosh and Daniel Williams, along with junior Markus Monroe, were selected to the second team. All were first time selections to the team.

The eight coaches in the conference voted on the all-conference team with the top 12 leaders in votes earning first-team honors, while the next eight received second-team honors.

The coaches also chose Carroll College’s Andy Garland as the Player of the Year, Montana Tech’s Dean Colbray as the Newcomer of the Year, Montana State-Northern’s Andrew Sellars as Defensive Player of the Year, and Carroll’s Casey Rogers as the Freshman of the Year.

Westminster’s Tommy Connor was named the Coach of the Year.

McIntosh, a 6-foot-8 forward from Imbler, Ore., started every game during his two-year career at LCSC and for the second straight season was the only Warrior to start every game. He finished second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game and was the club’s top rebounder at 5.8 per outing. He also led the team in blocked shots with 21 and shot 48.1 percent from the field.

Williams, a 6-4 guard from Los Angeles, averaged 10.9 points per game, which was third on the team. Despite missing some time because of a leg injury, he finished second on the team in assists with 86 and tied for fifth in steals with 25. He also was second on the team in rebounding at 4.6 per game. He shot 47.5 percent from the field and 73.2 percent at the foul line.

Monroe, a 6-2 guard from Monrovia, Calif., led LCSC in scoring at 16.8 points per game. He also was third on the team in steals with 31, tied for second in blocked shots with 13, and was third in assists with 65. Because of his ability to attack the basket and draw fouls, he led the team in most free throw attempts (168) and most free throws made (125). The 125 free throws put Monroe eighth on LCSC’s single-season record list.
