Finan and Flynn are honored during LCSC Recognition Social

   Jane Finan, an instructor in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division, and Tracy Flynn, an Associated Professor in the Nursing & Health Sciences Division, were honored during the Lewis-Clark State College Faculty/Staff Recognition Social at the LCSC Williams Conference Center.

   Finan received the H.L. Talkington Faculty Achievement Award for the 2008-09 academic year. The award recognizes “exceptional devotion to achieving a quality learning experience, maintaining high standards of rigor and currency of course content, exhibiting a spirit of academic collegiality, and making a direct impact on students.”

   Finan teaches Biology classes LCSC and also has been instrumental in LCSC’s involvement with the Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Grant with other institutions around the state. The grant is helps both faculty and students with research projects.

   Flynn was honored with the LCSC Foundation Award, which is chosen by the LCSC Foundation Board. The award honors “teaching excellence, recognized by students and colleagues; contributions to the profession through scholarly activities, and other contributions to the college and community.”

   Flynn is a 1995 graduate of LCSC and teaches a variety of courses at the college and also for Workforce Training.

   Three LCSC professors were honored with the President's Award for Outstanding Teaching. Ray Esparsen, an Art professor in the Humanities Division, Brian Fonnesbeck, an associate professor in Nursing & Health Sciences Division, and Lori McCann, a professor in the Business Technology & Service Division, were honored by LCSC President Dene Thomas. The award is for “effectiveness of teaching, quality of scholarly or creative production, and level of service to college or community.”

   The Adjunct Teaching Award went to Nancy Johnston, who teaches Chemistry in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division.

   Also honored was Cindy Carter, who worked a variety of jobs during her 34 years at LCSC. She received the President's Award for Excellence in Diversity and Cross-Cultural Understanding. The award honors someone who makes exceptional contributions to multicultural recruitment and retention efforts and increase multicultural understanding at LCSC. Carter was instrumental in starting the Indian Club at Lewiston High School and Indian Education Advisory Board for the Lewiston School District.

   Celeste McCormick, Manager of Administrative Computing in Information Technology, received the Professional Staff Award for Excellence, while the Classified Employee of the Year Award went to Connie Hallen, an administrative assistant for Natural Science & Mathematics.
