Fish And Game seeks angler input for 2011-2012 Fishing Regulations
08-19-10

LEWISTON - - Idaho Fish and Game is seeking public review and comment on proposed rule changes affecting fisheries and fishing opportunities in Idaho. Those proposed rules that are adopted would take effect January 1, 2011.

Many of the rule changes being proposed would simplify and clarify the current fishing rules and increase fishing opportunity for Idaho's anglers. Some of the proposals for the Clearwater Region include: limit and season changes on some of the Clearwater Regions rivers and streams, bait restrictions during the Clearwater River catch-and-release steelhead season, changing barbless hook restrictions on the Clearwater River, restricting use of treble or double pointed hooks on the South Fork Clearwater River, and extending fishing opportunities on Dworshak Reservoir.

Details regarding the proposed fishing rule changes can be found online at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/fishsurvey/public/ or by contacting fishery biologists at the Clearwater regional office in Lewiston, 208-799-5010.

Anglers who would like to provide comments can do so several ways:

      * Contact Joe DuPont, fisheries manager for Fish and Game's Clearwater region at
      799-5010; or by email: joe.dupont@idfg.idaho.gov.

      * Submit comments online at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/fishsurvey/public/.

      * Attend one of the four public meetings where Fish and Game fisheries biologists will present the different rule proposals for the Clearwater Region. Each meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

         1. Orofino: September 13, IDFG Clearwater Hatchery, 118 Hatchery Roe Drive,
          located northwest of Ahsahka Bridge.

         2. Grangeville: September 20, Super 8 Motel, 801 W South 1st Street

         3. Kooskia: September 22, Kooskia Community Center, 26 Main Street

         4. Lewiston: September 23, Idaho Fish and Game Office, 3316 16th Street.

Comments regarding the proposed rule changes will be accepted until September 28. Based on the comments provided by the public, the Fishery Bureau will submit proposed rules to the Idaho Fish and Game Commission for their approval in November before becoming effective on January 1, 2011.
