For many centuries this beautiful territory has been the home of the Nez Perce Indians. In 1805 when the Lewis and Clark expedition "re-discovered" the rugged country, they found friendly faces, miles of tree-covered mountains, whitewater rivers, rolling hills and pristine lakes. Today these features still exist. This geographical region overlaps the states of IDAHO, WASHINGTON and OREGON. This unique mixture of untouched beauty and western hospitality awaits your personal discovery. The eight major routes described offer a myriad of activities, events and points of interest.

Our region boasts:
T he largest concentration of wilderness areas in the lower 48 states.
T he largest selection of whitewater rivers in a 6 county area.
T he worlds largest Steelhead fish hatchery, DWORKSHAK FISH HATCHERY near Orofino.
T he deepest canyon in North America, HELLS CANYON of the Snake River.
T he "RIVER OF NO RETURN", the mighty Salmon River.
T he worlds third largest straight axis dam, DWORKSHAK, near Orofino.
